email marketingWhy should email be such a critical component of your inbound marketing strategy? Well, considering that 91 percent of consumers check their email at least once per day should tell you something. There is a big difference though between sending out a mass email blast to just anyone and sending out a more targeted email to fans that have specifically given you permission to do so. As you can imagine, the latter email marketing strategy is more likely to be read by your target audience while the generic email blast will probably end up in junk mail.

So how do you get more fans to agree to opt in to receive your emails? Our friends at Social Media Examiner have some great suggestions:

  1. Offer a noticeable call to action button on your website and social media pages for fans to subscribe to your email newsletters. As a rule of thumb, we always recommend positioning the call to action button at the top right-hand corner of the page and including some type of graphic on this call to action button to help attract attention. There are a number of email signup apps that you can use to create these custom call to action buttons.
  2. Use more detailed content (ebooks, whitepapers, etc) to help entice people to opt in to receive your email newsletters. Offering something for free that is perceived as valuable to your target audience in exchange for them signing up to receive your email updates is a very effective strategy.
  3. Hold a social promotion such as a sweepstakes or contest to earn more email addresses. In order for your fans to participate, they will need to opt in to receive your email updates. Again, this is another proven way for offering value in exchange for email addresses.

All three of these suggestion assume that your target audience has already taken the time to follow your company’s page on social media or visit your website, making them more viable leads with an increased likelihood that they will eventually convert to customers. Therefore, using these strategies to ramp up your email marketing efforts is a very effective way to earn more customers.
